Overview

course-thumbnailThis training will offer an introduction to the Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP) therapy approach. The goal of the LAMP approach is to give individuals who are nonverbal or have limited verbal abilities a method of independently and spontaneously expressing themselves through the use of voice output augmentative alternative communication (AAC). Participants will learn briefly about the key elements of the approach and how these elements influence the design of an AAC language system. Demonstration and video examples will be used throughout the class.


Devices for this training are optional. If you choose to bring a device, please bring one of the following: Accent (800, 1000, or 1400), iPad or laptop with PASS software pre-loaded with the LAMP Words for Life language system.


This training is appropriate for SLPs, OTs, ATPs, educators, family members, and others who are interested in learning more about the LAMP approach. Please note, this is not a comprehensive LAMP training. To attend a LAMP training please visit http://www.aacandautism.com/lamp-training.

 

Learner Outcomes: 

  1. Identify the language considerations used in the LAMP approach
  2. List the 5 key elements of the LAMP approach
  3. Name two necessary AAC language system features required by the LAMP approach


Agenda:

10 minutes         Introduction and Housekeeping

10 minutes          LAMP training and the Center for AAC and Autism

15 minutes          A review of the language considerations used in the LAMP approach including the importance and power of giving individuals access to core vocabulary and single words.

45 minutes          Overview of the 5 components of LAMP: readiness to learn, shared focus, consistent and unique motor patterns, auditory signals, and natural consequences.

10 minutes          Resources and Wrap Up
