PRC-Saltillo Gives The Gift Of Technology

Posted Oct 22, 2019 - 12:04pm

"These micro:bits may be small, but they're seeds."

On October 21, PRC-Saltillo Director of Innovation, Robert Read, presented Superintendent Jeffrey Layton and the Northwestern Local Schools Board with a check for $2,045.65. The amount represents half the purchase price of 120 micro:bits, with the Romich Foundation contributing the balance.

The micro:bit is a handheld, programmable micro-computer that can be used for all types of creations, from robots to musical instruments. Distributed by the Micro:bit Educational Foundation and chiefly sponsored by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), micro:bits are distributed around the world in order to inspire children from all walks of life in technology, digital skills and creativity.

The micro:bits will be used in all five sections of the 6th grade classes, and in two specialized classes in the 7th grade.

"At our core, PRC-Saltillo is a technology company," said Read, in a brief presentation before presenting the check. "It was the spirit of innovation that started our company, and keeps it going today. Encouraging that spirit of innovation is important within the company…and without. We are happy to provide the tools that will inspire a future generation towards technology and innovation. We wish the students all the best!"

"We appreciate the collaboration," said Layton. "We are always open to trying new things, and this is a great program. It's great for the kids."
