How the Stories and Strategies: A Language Development Model for AAC incorporates language decontextualization for use in multiple activities will be discussed. Story expansions will be discussed as an important step in the development of personal narratives. Through the process of story expansion activities personal narratives evolve that enable individuals using AAC to express themselves as individuals; engage in conversations; become more social and active members of society; and, have a way of addressing issues that may be in their best interest. A short question and answer session will end this presentation to assess learner objectives.

Presenter:
Tracy M. Kovach PhD, CCC-SLP has 30+ years of experience supporting individuals using AAC. She has worked in private practice, public schools, hospitals, and outpatient clinics; taught AAC and related disabilities courses; and is a former associate professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. She has professional involvement in state, country, and international organizations; has presented nationally and internationally; and is an American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Fellow. Dr. Kovach lives in Denver; is in private practice; and consulted with the Semantic Compaction Systems Company.
