You may have heard your child’s speech pathologist use the phrase “core words” during his/her sessions to help your child learn language and communicate on their AAC device. But what are core words and why do we teach them to children using AAC? And how do you continue to teach your child these critical language skills at home? Fear not! This 2- part workshop will provide an overview of core vocabulary and how it is represented in Saltillo systems. During this session, we will help you develop a better understanding of core vocabulary and how it is used in everyday language. Language development, as well as how it relates to core vocabulary will also be discussed. Lastly, we will go over basic AAC modeling concepts that you can apply with your child at home. Join us for Part 2 of this workshop to learn about ways to implement core vocabulary in your everyday life!
