What is AAC? Could AAC benefit children under 3 years of age? If so, when and how do I get started? These questions and more will be discussed in this 90 minute introductory session about AAC and early intervention. Participants will learn about the different types of AAC available, and how those can support language and communication. The course will discuss common myths and parental concerns surrounding AAC in the birth to three population. Strategies and resources are provided to help early interventionists support parents in considering and using AAC options.

Catherine Snider, M.A., CCC-SLP
Catherine received her Bachelors of Science in Education from the University of Virginia with a double major in Speech Language Pathology and French Literature in 2013. She attended George Washington University where she worked as a research and teaching assistant and graduated with her Masters of Arts in Speech Language Pathology in 2015. Catherine additionally completed a year-long Certificate in Early Intervention from the Georgetown School of Continuing Studies in 2017. Before joining PRC, Catherine worked as an early interventionist in Washington, D.C doing in-home sessions with parents and caregivers focusing on social, cognitive, feeding, and language development. Catherine additionally worked for an inclusion childcare center, Easter Seals serving DC/MD/VA, where she developed her interest and specialization in Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC). At Easter Seals, Catherine completed AAC evaluations, AAC trials, and provided weekly therapy for children using a variety of AAC systems. Catherine used the coaching interaction style to teach parents, teachers, and other therapists to help toddlers and young children to grow their spoken language with AAC.
Catherine holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), a state license in Speech-Language Pathology from the State of New York and the District of Columbia, and is a member of ASHA’s Special Interest Group 12 (AAC).

Amanda Hettenhausen, M.A., CCC-SLP
Amanda Hettenhausen is a Senior Assistive Technology Consultant for Saltillo Corporation who works with individuals and teams to provide education and support to find and use a communication solution. Amanda is passionate about helping others and believes that everyone deserves a voice. After working in the field of AAC for nearly a decade, Amanda understands that it takes persistence, teamwork, and creativity to help make this a realization.
In her role, Amanda is actively involved in the development of presentations and materials and supports the larger consultant network. Amanda has presented on a variety of AAC topics at the local, state, national, and international level.
Amanda holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in the state of Illinois. She is a member of ASHA’s Special Interest Division 12 (AAC Division) and a member of the United States Society for Augmentative and Alterative Communication (USSAAC). She also serves as adjunct faculty at Saint Louis University, where she teaches the AAC graduate level course
Amanda holds a Master’s of Arts & Research in Speech Pathology from Saint Louis University.

Live online classes: Participants wanting ASHA CEUs must be registered, "join" the class through his/her unique confirmation email letter and participate for the entire duration of the class. No partial credits will be submitted. Participants have 15 days to submit all ASHA paperwork to PRC. ASHA paperwork received after 15 days will not be accepted. Your entrance and exit of the class are timestamped and you must stay logged in on a computer or tablet for the entire class in order to receive ASHA CEUs. Call-in only attendance does not qualify for ASHA CEUs.
In-person classes:Â All ASHA paperwork must be submitted to the presenter by the end of the training day.
ASHA Information
Participants wanting ASHA CEUs for a multiple day training must attend all days. In addition, if there is a registration fee associated with the class and payment is not received, PRC will not submit your request for ASHA CEUs.
An annual ASHA CE Registry fee is required to register ASHA CEUs. ASHA CE Registry fees are paid by the participant directly to the ASHA National Office. The annual ASHA CE Registry fee allows registration of an unlimited number of ASHA CEUs for the calendar year. PRC presentations will focus exclusively on Accent, PRiO, NuEye, Look, NuPoint, Unity, UNIDAD, LAMP Words for Life, LAMP Words for Life - Sp/En, LAMP Words for Life - VI, CoreScanner, Essence, WordPower, Explore AAC, Realize Language, or AAC Language Lab and will not include information regarding other similar or related augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices or software.
Saltillo presentations will focus exclusively on ChatFusion, NovaChat, TouchChat, VocabPC, MultiChat15, WordPower, TouchChat app, Explore AAC, or TouchChat website.
