Due to public health concerns about the Covid-19 virus, PRC-Saltillo will only be providing in-person trainings when we can comply with CDC and local guidelines, and we feel we can ensure the health and safety of our hosts, attendees, and trainers. Basic requesting is a good place to start when introducing someone to communicating with AAC. However, requesting is only one of many reasons people communicate. This one-hour implementation class reviews how people use language to communicate and what you can do to help individuals get beyond basic requesting. Practical examples and materials will be used throughout the training.
This is a beginner/advanced beginner class intended for those who are new to the field of AAC.

Beth Browning, MA, CCC-SLP
Beth earned her Bachelor’s Degree with a double major in Communication Disorders and Cross-Linguistics (Spanish and Linguistics) at Indiana State University in 2004. She completed her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Indiana University in 2006. Prior to joining PRC in June 2010, Beth served as the pediatric Augmentative Communication Specialist at Easter Seals Crossroads in Indianapolis. There she completed AAC evaluations, consulted with school-based SLPs on device implementation, and provided ongoing therapy for children who used a variety of AAC systems. Beth also has three years of experience working as an SLP in Indiana’s public school system where she worked with Pre-K through 12th grade students presenting with a wide variety of communication disorders and abilities. Beth is a co-founder of the Indiana AAC Summit, an annual conference to increase Indiana's capacity for providing high-quality AAC services.
Beth holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), a state license in Speech-Language Pathology from the State of Indiana, and is a member of ASHA’s Special Interest Division 12 (AAC Division). She also served as elected VP of Marketing for the Indiana Speech-Language Hearing Association from 2017-2019.
Financial: Beth Browning is a salaried employee-owner of PRC-Saltillo.
Non-Financial: Beth Browning is the Vice President of Marketing for ISHA (Indiana Speech-Language-Hearing Association 2017-2019) and is a co-founder of the Indiana AAC Summit.
Live online classes: Participants wanting ASHA CEUs must be registered, "join" the class through his/her unique confirmation email letter and participate for the entire duration of the class. No partial credits will be submitted. Participants have 15 days to submit all ASHA paperwork to PRC. ASHA paperwork received after 15 days will not be accepted. Your entrance and exit of the class are timestamped and you must stay logged in on a computer or tablet for the entire class in order to receive ASHA CEUs. Call-in only attendance does not qualify for ASHA CEUs.
In-person classes: All ASHA paperwork must be submitted to the presenter by the end of the training day.
Participants wanting ASHA CEUs for a multiple day training must attend all days. In addition, if there is a registration fee associated with the class and payment is not received, PRC will not submit your request for ASHA CEUs.
An annual ASHA CE Registry fee is required to register ASHA CEUs. ASHA CE Registry fees are paid by the participant directly to the ASHA National Office. The annual ASHA CE Registry fee allows registration of an unlimited number of ASHA CEUs for the calendar year. PRC presentations will focus exclusively on Accent, PRiO, NuEye, Look, NuPoint, Unity, UNIDAD, LAMP Words for Life, LAMP Words for Life - Sp/En, LAMP Words for Life - VI, CoreScanner, Essence, WordPower, Explore AAC, Realize Language, or AAC Language Lab and will not include information regarding other similar or related augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices or software.
Saltillo presentations will focus exclusively on ChatFusion, NovaChat, TouchChat, VocabPC, MultiChat15, WordPower, TouchChat app, Explore AAC, or TouchChat website.

This was an excellent course that efficiently covers additional ideas for intervention with students who use AAC. It's easy to get stuck in the "requesting mode."
