This one-hour AAC implementation class focuses on pre-literacy instruction for children who use AAC. The first portion of the class defines emergent literacy, discusses its components and reviews goals for the emergent reader. The bulk and remainder of the class discusses strategies to use with an emergent reader, specifically shared reading practices. Practical examples and materials are provided in order for participants to begin literacy instruction with children who use AAC.
This class is intended for people who educate students who use AAC in a classroom setting.

Beth Waite-Lafever has a Bachelors and Masters in speech-language pathology and is an ASHA certified speech-language pathologist. She has over 30 years of experience working with individuals using AAC. Beth has the RESNA ATP, which means she is certified as an assistive technology professional. She has worked in outpatient rehabilitation, public schools, taught university courses and has presented on AAC at the national and international level. Beth began working with PRC speech-generating devices in the 1980’s and developed one of the first programs to provide AAC evaluations and therapy in Indiana while employed with the Central Indiana Easter Seals. Society. During her 19 years in public school, she provided speech-language services to students with complex communication needs using AAC strategies and served as the Assistive Technology Coordinator and AAC Specialist for several school districts. Beth has collaborated with teams to promote implementation of communication strategies at school, home, and in the community. Areas of interest include autism, literacy and working with individuals who are at the very early learning stage of communication. In her current position as Training and Implementation Specialist for PRC-Saltillo Beth provides training and support for PRC products and services.

Live online classes: Participants wanting ASHA CEUs must be registered, "join" the class through his/her unique confirmation email letter, participate for the entire duration of the class, and pass a post-test with 80% accuracy or higher. No partial credits will be submitted. Participants have 15 days to submit all ASHA paperwork to PRC. ASHA paperwork received after 15 days will not be accepted.
In-person classes: All ASHA paperwork must be submitted to the presenter by the end of the training day.
Participants wanting ASHA CEUs for a multiple day training must attend all days. In addition, if there is a registration fee associated with the class and payment is not received, PRC will not submit your request for ASHA CEUs.
An annual ASHA CE Registry fee is required to register ASHA CEUs. ASHA CE Registry fees are paid by the participant directly to the ASHA National Office. The annual ASHA CE Registry fee allows registration of an unlimited number of ASHA CEUs for the calendar year. Saltillo presentations will focus exclusively on ChatFusion, NovaChat, TouchChat, VocabPC, MultiChat15, WordPower, TouchChat app, Explore AAC, or TouchChat website.
