Give Me 5! Five Great Tools for Teaching and Supporting Unity or LAMP Words for Life - 3 hour

This product training will focus on five great tools to help teach and implement Unity® and LAMP Words for Life®. Participants will learn how to use Word Finder, Vocabulary Builder, PRC Application Support Software (PASS demo software), the AAC Language Lab® and Realize Language. Word Finder and Vocabulary Builder are onboard tools that allow you to find the location of a word and temporarily limits the amount of vocabulary appearing on the screen. Participants will learn how to use pre-made Vocabulary Builder activity sets and create vocabulary sets of their own. PASS demo software is a free download from With PASS you will learn how to create low-tech boards and teaching materials. The training will conclude with a review of the lesson plans, books, games and therapy resources available on the AAC Language Lab. In addition, participants will learn how to monitor, measure and maximize use of a PRC communication device by using data logging in conjunction with Realize Language.

Devices are required for this training.   Please bring an Accent® 800, 1000, 1200 or 1400, a PRiO or an iPad (pre-loaded with LAMP Words for Life)  running the latest version of software.  Participants can bring a laptop computer pre-loaded with PASS demo software and the appropriate language system.  If you want to use a Mac laptop you will need a Windows 7 or higher emulator with PASS installed.  PASS software is not compatible with iPads.

This training is appropriate for SLPs, OTs, ATPs, educators, family members, and others who support individuals who currently use or may need to use a PRC device.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to:
  1. Locate vocabulary with Word Finder

  5. Turn on data logging and upload that information to Realize Language for review

Jennifer Monahan, M.A., CCC-SLP

Jennifer earned her undergraduate degree in Hearing and Speech Sciences at Ohio University and her Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology from the Ohio State University in Columbus. Since receiving her Masters, Jennifer has worked as a speech pathologist in the public school setting as well as in private practice, serving all ages. She gained practical, hands-on experiences targeting speech and language skills necessary for functional communication outcomes, performing AAC (Augmentative & Alternative Communication) evaluations and treatments for a variety of age levels and disabilities, and implementing successful therapy plans for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Beginning in 2005, Jennifer has been employed as an Augmentative Communication Consultant for the Prentke Romich Company, allowing her to focus her passion on assisting individuals who require alternative methods for communication and cannot speak verbally. Jennifer has provided continuing education seminars for the Zane Trace Early Childhood Conference, the Ohio School Speech Pathology and Education Audiology Coalition, and the Ohio Speech Language and Hearing Association.

Most recently she was selected as a presenter at the 2012 ISAAC (International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication) conference and enjoys her role as a regular guest lecturer for the Ohio State University College of Education and Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. Jennifer has earned her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language Hearing Association.

Submission Deadlines

Live online classes:  Participants wanting ASHA CEUs must be registered, "join" the class through his/her unique confirmation email letter, participate for the entire duration of the class, and pass a post-test with 80% accuracy or higher. No partial credits will be submitted. Participants have 15 days to submit all ASHA paperwork to PRC. ASHA paperwork received after 15 days will not be accepted.

In-person classes:  All ASHA paperwork must be submitted to the presenter by the end of the training day.

Participants wanting ASHA CEUs for a multiple day training must attend all days. In addition, if there is a registration fee associated with the class and payment is not received, PRC will not submit your request for ASHA CEUs.

An annual ASHA CE Registry fee is required to register ASHA CEUs. ASHA CE Registry fees are paid by the participant directly to the ASHA National Office. The annual ASHA CE Registry fee allows registration of an unlimited number of ASHA CEUs for the calendar year.
