Materials: Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What do you hear? By Eric Carle Objective: Using an augmentative device, the student will have the opportunity to turn-take, ask and answer questions, make comments, and name colors, animals and people.
Target Vocabulary: Core Vocabulary: I, you, we, me, us, do, see, looking at, turn, more, yes, no, what and that. Activity Specific: page, read, polar bear, red, blue, yellow, green, purple, white, black, gold, pink, lion, snake, hippo, flamingo, zoo keeper, children, funny, hear, listen.
Sample Words and Phrases: White Polar Bear. That funny. Turn page. I do it. Read more. Polar bear, polar bear, what do you hear? (color, animal) what do you hear? You hear a (color, animal) talking to me.
Adaptations: Language: Students can read just the repeated lines Students can make interactive comments instead of reading each page Physical: Place icon sequences representing vocabulary on each page of the book. Make "page fluffers" so that the students can easily turn pages (Musselwhite, 1988).
