How do I Connect My DeltaTalker to a PC for Keyboard Emulation?

For IBM compatible computers:   Plug the large end of the MTI-PC cable (part # 11977) into Serial Port 1 on your computer. Plug the small round end into the connector labeled RS232 on the back of the DeltaTalker.

For Macintosh computers:   Plug one end of the MTI-Mac cable (part # WI341) into the modem port on your computer. This port usually has a picture of a telephone handset bedside it. Plug the other end into the RE232 connector on the DeltaTalker. NOTE:  If your Mac only has a USB port, you will need to buy a USB Serial Adapter.  You can purchase it wherever Macintosh computers are sold.

To Set-up the DeltaTalker Serial Port for SerialKeys or AAC Keys:

  1. Remove your overlay from the DeltaTalker so you can see the the pre-printed, rubber Toolboox overlay underneath.
  2. Open the Toolbox by selecting the Tools button in the Control Panel, which is located on the top right hand corner of the DeltaTalker in the same area as the On/Off button.) The Tools light will turn on.
  3. Activate the Output menu at location "K2".
  4. Select Next Menu Item at location "F1" once displaying Serial Output = Off.
  5. Select Change Item at location "G1" to change Serial Output = On
  6. Select Next Menu Item at location "G1" once to step to Serial Output Mode = Immediate.
  7. Select Next Menu Item at location "G1" once to step to Send Output = RS232 Port.
  8. Select Next Menu Item at location "G1" twice to step to Baud Rate= 1200. (Faster rates can be chosen, but are not necessary. Remember the baud rate you set on the computer because the rate on your PRC device must match it.)
  9. Select the Exit button at location "H1" to exit from the menu.
  10. Stay in the Toolbox for the initial Serialkeys/AAC Keys test. Make sure the Minspeak light is on in the Control Panel by selecting Spell/Minspeak at location "L1" until the light comes on.
