Please read the following details about the settings found under Customizing and Calibration Settings Keys to optimize the best use of your Eyegaze System:

Customize Eyegaze Settings
This menu gives you all the options that allow you to customize your eyegaze settings.
Selection Type (Eyegaze Only): Auto/Blink/Switch
Auto
If you select Auto, you will also be able to select a Dwell Time.
After the Dwell time has passed, your device automatically selects the key you are looking at.
Blink
This allows you to blink to make a selection. You must set a Minimum Blink Duration and a Maximum Blink Duration. The defaults are .30 for minimum and .80 for maximum. If you want to use Blink, we suggust you try using the defaults first before you change anything.
Minimum and Maximum Blink Duration
If you have to change the defaults, here are some guidelines to use.
The minimum duration should be long enough that your normal blinks do not activate anything. The maximum duration should be long enough that you finish your blink before you reach reach your maximum time.
You do not want to make your Maximum Duration Time so long that if you turn your head away from your screen and then bring it back again, the system sees that as an activation. Four seconds would be way too long for a Maximum Duration for most people.

Switch
If you select Switch, you may also select an Acceptance Time. Switch allows you plug in and use a single switch or a PRC Bluetooth switch to make key selections. Look at the key you want and press and hold your switch. When your Acceptance Time passes, the key will be activated.
Predictive Selection
Predictive Selection generally works best with Unity MAPS.
When Predictive Selection is On, keys that do not produce messages are turned off. If you touch or scan to them, nothing will happen. Only keys that contain or are part of actual stored messages will work.
Auto Repeat
This lets you choose how fast a key will repeat itself when you hold it down.
Copy Current Settings to All Areas
This copies all your eyegaze settings except the actual calibration to all the User Areas in your device. When you select this option, you seee a yellow information box asking if you want to do this. Respond YES to use your settings in every Area or select NO to keep your settings in your current Area only. See Eyegaze Calibration on page 26 (in the Calibration Settings menu) for information about using a specific calibration in one or more User Areas.

Calibration Settings
If you aren’t getting good calibration results using the defaults, use the options in this menu to refine the system, then try again.
Stimulus Type: Point/Point 2/Cross/Image
This is the item your eyes will focus on during calibration.
Point
Point is the default. This is a small circle with a grey dot in the middle.
Point 2
This is a small circle with a red dot in the middle.
Cross
This is a small cross.
Image
This allows you to select an icon or other image to use as a stimulus.
If you want to use an image, the first time you select this option you will see a yellow box asking, “Use Icon?” If you select YES, you are taken to the Icon Categories page where you can select the icon you want to use. The image shows up on your Calibration Settings screen to remind you what image you have selected. You also see a new option, Change Image. Use this if you decide you want a different image.
If you select NO to “Use icon?”, your display will show a screen containing your drives and folders. You can select any image you already have stored on your device or you can import an icon stored on a USB flash drive (the flash drive must be plugged into your device).
Stimulus Size
This increases or decreases the size of the Stimulus Type you have selected. 20 is the default
For the best calibration results you want the Stimulus Type to be as small as the user’s eyes can easily follow.
Active Eye: Both/Left/Right
If both your eyes work normally, select Both.
If one of your eyes works better than the other, select Right or Left depending on which is your “good” eye. The eyegaze system will calibrate using your “good” eye.
Stimulus Sound: Yes/No
Yes is the default. You hear a beep at the end of each gaze-point calibration.
Keyboard Step-through: Yes/No
No is the default. Calibration proceeds automatically through the gaze-points. You hear a beep (if Sound is on) and the Stimulus moves to the next gaze-point.
If you select YES for this option, you can manually step through each calibration point. Note: You must plug in a USB keyboard. Use the spacebar on the keyboard to step through the calibration.
Calibration Points: 2/5/9
5 is the default.
This indicates how many points on the screen your stimulus will jump to during calibration. Tip: In general, the more points the user has to follow, the more accurate the eyegaze system will be. However, if the user can easily lock onto only two points, you may find that this produces good enough results.
Calibration Area
With the default calibration area (100%), the eyegaze system will show you gaze-points to look at during calibration. Some of thesegaze- points will be at the very edges of your display screen and may be hard to see or focus on. If you find this to be true for you, decrease the Calibration Area. This will move the calibration points in from the edges of your screen. We suggest you start decreasing in increments of five (95%, 90%, etc.).
Reducing the Calibration Area decreases the screen size which means that you will lose some accuracy.
Background Brightness: 0 – 255
220 is the default. Increase this number to make background whiter.
Foreground Brightness: 0 – 255
160 is the default. Decrease this number to make foreground darker.
These two options change the brightness of the background and the foreground of the calibration screen. You want the user to be able to easily see the calibration points, but remember that the regular Accent display screens are a light gray. If you calibrate using a background/foreground that is a lot brighter or dimmer than the normal screens, this may make it difficult for the system to lock onto the user’s eyes when they are using the regular Accent screens. Pupil size may change due to the difference is brightness.
Eyegaze Calibration: Global/Per User Area
Global is the default.
Select Global if you want your calibration to be used in all User Areas.
Select Per User Area if you want to do a separate calibration for each User Area.
Tip: If you want all your other eyegaze settings copied to all User Areas, select the Copy Current Settings to All Areas option in the previous menu.
Validate Calibration: Off/Text
Off is the default. If you select Text, then perform a calibration, you will see an information box describing the accuracy of the calibration. This shows the deviation in degrees of the X and Y axis. The lower the numbers, the more accurate the calibration.
