Access Method Menu / Eyegaze Settings and Descriptions

Within the Access Method Menu in the Toolbox and set to Eyegaze selection, there are many settings and features you can use and experiment with to allow the best access and ease of use.  Below is a brief description of those settings:

 Eyegaze menu

Eyegaze Positioning

When you select this you see what the eyegaze system and the Track Status Box are seeing. This option will be of most use to the person aligning and setting up the eyegaze system. When positioning is correct, you see two very small dots near each of the user’s pupils. The Track Status Box will show two white circles. There will be no arrows or grey circles in the Tracking Box.

When you are using the Positioning option, the Track Status Box is always visible.

Eye Track Status

When this is On a small Track Status Box covers the mini TOOLS menu to the right of the Status Area on your device. The Track Status Box contains two dots that represent how the system is seeing your eyes. This can be a useful tool in helping you to see that the system is tracking your eyes correctly. If you want a larger Track Status Box, see Track Status Size on page 20.

If Eyetrack Status is On and you are using the eyegaze system, the Track Status Box is green. If you Pause the eyegaze system, the Track Status box turns red.

Track Status Size

This controls the size of the Track Status box.

Small

This places a small box over the drop-down menu to the right of the Status Area on your device.

Large

This triples (approximately) the size of the box and places it on the left side of your screen.

TIP: If Eyetrack Status is On and you are using the eyegaze system, the Track Status box is green. If you Pause the eyegaze system, the Track Status box turns red.

Manage Eyegaze Profiles

An eyegaze profile consists of a combination of the eyegaze settings you have selected from the Customize Eyegaze Settings Menu and the actual data from the calibration you performed. There are also several pre-defined profiles that you can select from when you first set up your eyegaze system. You can also create and save your profiles of your own.

Eyegaze Profiles

Load Profile

This allows you to load a saved profile into a User Area (or Globally, if that is what was selected as the Eyegaze Calibration option). You can also load a profile that you saved to a USB flash drive. The flash drive must be plugged into your device in order to do this.

Save Current Settings and Calibration to a Profile

This option allows you to save an eyegaze profile to the default Profiles location in your device or to a USB flash drive. Use Load Profile to load the profile into a User Area.

Therapists or teachers working with multiple clients using one device might want to save the eyegaze profiles of their clients. They can just load the client’s profile into a User Area (or Globally if that was selected as the Eyegaze Calibration option).

Resetting to Factory Defaults: if you reset your device to Factory Defaults (MAINTENANCE MENU) and you want to keep your calibration, you must save your eyegze profile to a USB flash drive before you reset your device. Then use Load Profile to load it back in.

If you use a profile, it’s a good idea to save it to a flash drive as a back-up.

A Note About Pre-defined Profiles

There are several already-defined profiles in this menu. These contain eyegaze settings that have the best chance of working well for a beginner, an advanced user, someone using a computer, etc. When you first set up your system, you may find it easier to select one of these profiles to use while you are learning the system.

Delete Profile

This allows you to delete any profiles that you no longer use.

Pause/Resume

This allows you to pause eyegaze so you can read the options, then resume when you are ready.

Calibrate Now

Calibration gives the NuEye system the information it needs to track your gaze.

Press Calibrate Now to start the calibration process. Follow the on-screen image with your eyes.
