Top 5 Troubleshooting Service Calls

1.       Why is my device no longer speaking?

Most often the cause of this is because the External Speaker function has been turned on or a users Speech was turned off.  Check the External Speaker Function in the Feedback Menu and make sure it is OFF.  If it was OFF, check the Status Area under the text bar and make sure the Speech bar to the right of the Speaker Icon is green and not red.  If red, select Toolbox, then the Speech On/Off key. Now the bar should be green, meaning the unit will speak as soon as the message is selected.

2.       Why do I have to press every key twice to get a message to speak?

If Auditory Prompts are turned on in the Toolbox, the first time the key is selected it speaks the prompts, the second hit should the message.  Turn OFF prompts in the Auditory Prompts menu and your messages will speak on the first activation again.

3.       Why is my Clear Display no longer working?

The most common cause of the Clear Display no longer working is because a Notebook is Open.  You can close the Notebook by either going to the Notebook activity in the top row and selecting the Close Notebook key, or by going to the Toolbox to Notebook Menu and select Close Notebook.

4.       Help, my keys are missing, how do I get them back?

There may be a couple of things affecting the keys.  First, if you are not using the Vocabulary Builder tool on purpose, you will want to go to the Toolbox, to Vocabulary Builder Menu, to More Options and make sure your Vocabulary Builder is OFF.  Save Mask Info or OK to exit and return to your Home page.  Are your keys back?

If not, with the core on your screen, select the Toolbox key then Assign Core Keys, and then select a key on your screen.  Select the tool called Hide/Show Keys.  Select Show All to bring all keys back to use.  Select Text Area to exit then OK and return to your core screen.

5.       How do I make a Back up copy of my Vocabulary?

Memory Transfers can be done with a 4G or Less Flash Drive and by using the Transfer Memory Menu.  Plug in the flash drive, and then select Tools to Transfer Memory Menu.  You have the option of Save One User Area or Save Entire Device contents, if you don’t know what user area you use or have Infrared Commands stored in the device, you can select Save Entire Device contents which will save ALL 6 user areas.  Follow the prompts on the screen to complete the transfer and make a copy of the .MTI file on a desktop computer just in case the flash drive becomes misplaced.
