How do I Install a New Software Card in Vantage Lite?
IMPORTANT! If you have added your own vocabulary in the device and you want to save it, perform a memory tranfer BEFORE you update your software!
To Update the System Software:
1. With the device turned OFF and the charged unplugged, remove the battery door on the back of the device using a philips screwdriver.
Unscrew and remove the two screws on the top of the battery door.
Lift up on the Battery Door until it is perpendicular to the device, then lift it off.
Note: You may need to use your screwdriver or a small lever of some kind to boost the battery door out of the enclosure
You see the battery pack in your device.
Disconnect the battery pack by gently pulling on the wires until the white plug comes out of the case. When the batteries are disconnected lift the battery pack out of the case and set it aside.
2. Now look inside the opening. Your current system software card is seated in the card slot inside. You will find a piece of tape on the end of the card. Grasp the tape and pull the card out of the slot, taking note which side is UP on the card, so the replacement card can be inserted the SAME way.
Insert the new software card into the slot with the proper side up. Push the card all the way in.
3. Place the battery pack back inside the case. Make sure the label side is up.
The battery pack plug will only go into the connector one way—the small ridges on the plug must face toward you as you insert it into the connector.
Plug in the battery pack.
Press the battery pack wires down behind the battery so they do not interfere when you screw the battery door on.
Fit the tabs on the door into the case so that the door is perpendicular to the case.
Now lower the door flat against the case.
Replace and tighten the battery door screws. Your new battery pack and battery door are installed.
Reset the Vantage:
When your new card is in place, you must reset the device in order for the changes to take place and the new software to load. You will need your battery charger available to do this.
1. Turn the Vantage ON and turn the device over so it is face down. There is a small hole in the lower right on the back of the Vantage.
2. Unbend a paper clip and gently insert it into the hole and press down slightly on the reset button. Remove the paper clip and turn the device over. You should now see the screen flash and reboot. If not, try pressing the reset button once again.
Once the Vantage has been reset, you will see a message telling you to plug in your battery charger. You MUST do this or the Vantage will not accept the new software.
When the charger is plugged in, the software will load. This may take 2 - 3 minutes and you will see a graphic on the display with the loading process.
Vantage Lite Memory Reload
Memory: If you saved your memory, use the Transfer Memory Menu in the Toolbox to transfer the memory back into the device.
Important Note about PCS Symbols: If you were using the PCS Symbols on your Vantage Lite and updated your software, you will need to re-activate the PCS Symbols by re-entering the password. If you do not have your password, you will need to contact PRC Sales Department 1-800-262-1933 and tell them you need your original PCS symbol password. You must also supply them with the serial number of the device and the Keycode; which is located in the Maintenance Menu in the Toolbox.
