WCMK - Installing the Collar on your Bar and Working with Cinch Clamps.

When unpacking your Wheelchair Mounting Kit, you will find a black collar in a bag with a piece of white foam rolled up inside the collar hole.  This foam is holding your pinch clamps in place. This shows a new collar with foam holding cinch clamps in place.

Please do not remove the foam until you are ready to put the clamp on your bar.  If the pinch clamps are lost, the collar will not work.

This shows the vertical bar and collar.

1. You will need to install the black collar on the longer, straight section (vertical tube) of your L-Bar.   First remove the black cap on this end of L-Bar.  This is the end that will be inserted into the frame clamp mounted on the wheelchair.

2.  The black collar is secured to the vertical tube with pinch clamps. This piciture shows cinch clamps.  The pinch clamps are inside the hole that runs through one side of the collarCinch clamps inside a collar.

Take the T-Wrench and loosen the screw that holds the pinch clamps in.  Using your finger, position the pinch clamps so that they form a smooth circle on the inside of the collar. This shows cinch clamps in place inside a collar.

Do not loosen too much or the screw and cinch clamp will come apart. When the pinch clamps are aligned correctly the tube will slip in and out of the hole easily.

This shows the collar on the vertical bar being tightened down.

Tighten the screw within the collar.  The collar will need to be adjusted further once installed on the wheelchair frame clamp.

4.  Insert the end of the vertical tube into the Frame Clamp on the Wheelchair.

This shows the L-Bar inserted into the frame clamp.

5.  The black collar on the vertical tube has three holes on the bottom, one of which should drop over the metal pin on the clamp.

This shows the 3 holes on the bottom of the collar.

This helps hold the vertical tube in place.  Don't worry about these holes yet.  For now, notice how far the bottom of the tube sticks out through the hole in the Frame Clamp.  Is it too far?  Does it interfere with the rotation of the wheel?  If it does, then you must adjust the height of the collar by lowering it on the L-Bar find a position for it that will allow the wheel (or any other obstacle) to clear the bottom of the tube.

6.  Once you have found the right position for the vertical tube, make sure one of the holes on the black collar is over the metal pin on the Frame Clamp.  Also make sure that you can get your T-Wrench into the pinch clamp screw in order to tighten the screw.  If the screw is inaccessible, turn the collar until it rests in a hole that makes the pinch clamp screw accessible to you. Tighten the pinch clamps by holding the vertical tube with one hand and tightening the pinch clamp screw with the other.

If you have the Frame Clamp mounted on the left side of your wheelchair, you will want to have the silver pin on the Frame Clamp insert into the #1 hole on the bottom of the collar when the bar is positioned in front of the user.

This shows the wholes on the bottom of the collar.

If you have the Frame Clamp mounted on the right side of your wheelchair, you will want to have the silver pin on the Frame Clamp insert into the #3 hole on the bottom of the collar when the bar is positioned in front of the user.

Once your collar is lined up correctly, you can lift the bar slightly and swing the bar and device away from the user and lock it correctly into all 3 positions, maximizing use of the mount and minimizing accidents.

Front position.  Forward position.  Side position.

7.  Once the collar is securely tightened around the vertical tube, you can lift the tube up or down to remove or insert it.  As long as you don't change the collar height, the tube will always be at the height you have just chosen

8.  It is a very good idea to go back and re-tighten all the screws once you have mounted the whole unit.  You can also re-install the black cap on the bottom of the vertical bar if you choose to.

* If the pinch clamps are tightened too tightly, they may become jammed.  If this happens, just unscrew the pinch clamp screw about three turns.  Then tap on the screw head until the pinch clamp comes loose.  Remove the screw completely and catch the pinch clamp as it falls out.  Tap on the other pinch clamp until it falls out of the collar.
