Switching from a Natural Speech Voice to DecTalk so you can Sing the Songs in the ECO.
Singing in the ECO
If when you enter the preprogrammed song pages you find that the device only speaks in the Natural Speech voice, this is because the ECO is only formatted to sing in Dec Speech. If you want to sing these songs, you must switch the Synthesizer to DECtalk instead of your Natural Speech voice. You can do this by setting up the following macro. This works best when entering the macro at the same location of the link that takes you to the singing page. You can also program in a macro to switch you back to your Natural Speech voice when exiting the song page.
The example we are using is the Unity 60 Sequenced, using the Pages page and creating a link to the Songs Page.
Switching from Natural Speech to DECTalk:
- With the Pages Page visible on your ECO screen, select the #2 (Set-up) key on the top of your ECO case, then select the Song key on the page.
- Now select the Spell Message, or Define Key Function key to add the macro.
- On your spelling page, select Page Link, answer NO to the yellow box, then select More Items until you find the Singing Page then select it.
- On your spelling page, select Insert Tool, then More Items twice then choose Speech Menu.
- Select Insert Tool, then Activate Key, choose the 84 location key then select the upper left corner key on the blank overlay.
- Select Insert Tool once again, then More Items at the bottom of your screen then choose OK.
- Your text bar should read as follows:

7. If singing with the voice Paul is suitable, select OK from your spelling keyboard.
8. If you wish to sing in a different voice please follow the chart below.
When switching between DECTalk and Natural Speech, the device will return to the Default Voice settings which will be Paul for DECTalk and Claire16 for Natural Speech. If you wish to sing with a specific DECTalk voice, you must insert additional Activate Key commands to change to the correct voice. Please see the following chart for the number of Activate Key commands that will need to be added for your specific voice.
