How do I Assign a Tool to the Core Vocabulary?

To assign tools to keys you must use the ASSIGN KEY menu and INSERT TOOL.

To Assign a Tool to a Key in Minspeak Mode:

1. Select the STATUS key twice to the left of the display.

2. Activate the ASSIGN KEY menu.  This shows the Assign Key menu icon in the status area.

3. Select the key where you want to assign the tool.

4. You see the current key assignments, as well as some other options.

Here is the current assign for key P8.

5. Activate the Minspeak Assignment option. If you want the tool to be available in all modes activate More Items and turn option #2 On. Then return to the previous screen and select option #1,2 or 3.)

6. Activate the Assign key as option to read, Tool.

7. Activate Enter Assignment.

8. Activate the INSERT TOOL key on the Pathfinder.

9. From the list, select the tool you want to add to the key. Activate More Items to see more tools or begin to spell the name of the tool. We selected the Clear Display tool.

10.  Now you will see your key assignment with an arrow before and after the tool.  If this is correct, select OK to exit.

11.  You will now see all three key assignments reading the same - Clear Display.

12. If you want to define more keys, select Choose Next Key to Define.

13. When finished, activate OK until you have exited the menu.

Note: When You Assign a Tool to a Key in Minspeak:

The tool will always be available for use if you leave the TOOL option visible in the Assign Key As box when you exit the menu. If you leave the ICON option visible, the icon is available, not the tool. If you do not want the icon to be available at all, select ICON in the Assign Key As option. Select Rename Icon. Activate DELETE WORD. Activate OK to exit the menu.
