Why Won't my SpringBoard Record a Message?

If you are trying to record a message in the SpringBoard, but nothing will play back, there could be several things happening.

My Device Won't Record!

If when you press and hold down the Record Message, you see the word recording flash for a brief second then disappear, you may have a setting that needs to be changed so the SpringBoard will record properly.

You will want to check this setting by going to the Toolbox, then enter the Selection Technique Menu.  Here you will find the setting called Activate Key When.  This should be set to PUSHED.  If set to released, the device will not record a message.

Why do I Only Hear White Noise after Recording?

If this Setting was correct and if the device shows Recording when Record Message is held down, but only plays back white noise when Listen to Recording is selected, then your Internal Microphone may be damages.

The Microphone is located in the front of the case and is often mistaken for a Reset button.  Many have inserted a paperclip into this whole thinking they are resetting the device, when actually they are damaging the Microphone.

On SpringBoard 2 devices, there is an External Microphone Jack located on the left side of the device.  If you have an External Microphone available, you can plug it into this jack and record your messages.  Simply remove it when you are done.

On the original SpringBoard, this External Microphone Jack is not available, so the device would need to come in for service.

Why does my Device Growl when Playing back a Recorded Message?

If the device shows Recording when Record Message is held down, but only plays back a growling noise when Listen to Recording then the device may just need to be reset.  Turn the device OFF to save any previous changes you have made, then turn the unit back ON.  With the device on, select the reset button on the back of the device under the leg of the stand.

Now try to record your message.  If you still hear a growling sound, please contact PRC Service for additional help. 1-800-262-1990
