Adjusting the Scanning Method to Best Work for You or a Device User with a SpringBoard.
Fine tuning your scanning method can improve your switch activation greatly, making you more accurate and possibly increasing the speed of your communication. Please view the following article to insure you are set up correctly and getting the full benefit of your scanning method.
Switch Scanning Descriptions
Single Switch Scanning
Mode 1
- Auto
- Press and release switch to begin scan
- Press and release again when desired row is highlighted
- Press and release again for selection
- Hold
- Hold switch to scan rows
- Release when desired row is highlighted
- Hold to scan across row
- Release to select icon
- Step
- Press and release switch repeatedly until desired row is highlighted
- When desired row is highlighted, wait and device will automatically select the row.
- Press and release switch repeatedly until desired icon is highlighted
- When desired icon is highlighted, wait and device will automatically select the icon.
Mode 2
- Auto- adds a switch hit. In row/column or column/row will wait for another hit before continuing scan after first hit. Can dramatically help user with minor timing trouble.
- Press and release switch to begin scan
- Press and release again when desired row is highlighted
- Press and release again to begin scanning across row
- Press and release again to select desired icon
- Hold=Same as Hold in Mode 1
- Hold switch to scan rows
- Release when desired row is highlighted
- Hold to scan across row
- Release to select icon
- Step=nearly the same as step in Mode 1 except that it requires 1 extra hit to select the first icon in each row.
- Press and release switch repeatedly until desired row is highlighted
- When desired row is highlighted, wait and device will automatically select the row.
- Press and release switch repeatedly until desired icon is highlighted
- When desired icon is highlighted, wait and device will automatically select the icon.
2 Switch Scanning- Use of 2 switches, one switch acts as a mover and the other acts as the selector.
Mode 2
- Auto= basic 2 switch step scan- eliminates the need for timing
- Press mover switch until desired block is highlighted.
- Press selector switch to select the block
- Press the mover switch to move within the block
- Press selector switch to select desired icon.
- Hold
- Hold mover switch until desired block is highlighted
- Tap selector switch to select the block
- Hold mover switch to move within the block
- Tap selector to select the desired icon
Mode 1
- Auto- be sure to use at least 1 rescan
- Slight hold on mover switch scans row
- Slight hold on selector switch scans column
- Tap selector to choose
- Hold
- Must hold mover switch to scan row
- Hold selector switch to scan column
- Selection is made by releasing switches
