What is the Random Key Tool and How Do I Use it in my Vantage/Vanguard?

RANDOM CHOICE:  This tool will choose random items from a Page you have selected. To see examples of this tool, go to your page menu in Unity 45 full and select the Random page.

You must first create the page you would like to use for the Random Choice.  We created a page called Instruments.  We thought this might be a fun activity in the classroom if the other kids are playing the instruments.

Note:   Don't forget to add an exit key such as the Go To Minspeak.

Depending on where you would like to program your Random Choice page, you can add the Random Choice tool to keys when you are creating a new page using the CREATE PAGE menu in the Toolbox or to a key on a page that has already been created by using the MODIFY PAGE menu in the Toolbox and then selecting the page you want to add the tool(s) to.

Once you have started to create a new page or selected a page to modify, follow the steps below.

1. Choose the key you want to add the tool to.

2. Select CHANGE ICON.

3. Select an icon from one of the categories to represent the tool.  (We chose the music note.)

4. Select SPELL TEXT FOR MESSAGE.

4a. If the key you selected already has an assignment, select CLEAR DISPLAY to erase it. Then go to Step 5.

5. Select INSERT TOOL - located in the top row of keys on the left side of your spelling overlay. (You must be using a QWERTY spell ing overlay. )

This is a picture showing the Insert Tool key.

6. To keep the display clutter free, we will first insert the CLEAR DISPLAY Tool. Select that from the function list.

7.  Select INSERT TOOL again.

8. You see a list of all the tools available. Select Random Choice.

9. Now you will see a list of pages available. We chose the Instrument page.

10.  If you would like a spoken prompt, you can select INSERT TOOL then PROMPT MARKER then spell the text you would like the device to speak when this key is selected.  We added "Pick an Instrument."

This is what the text bar should look like. You will need to select the left and right arrows to see the whole message shown here in two parts.
