How Do I Expand a User Area/Page in my SpringBoard?

Perhaps you or your client/student have become extremely proficient at using a particular overlay (4, 8, or 15 -Location), now you would like to move up to an overlay with more keys on it, yet you don't want to lose the overlay you are already familiar with. The option, Expand a User Area or Page in the CHOOSE OVERLAY MENU allows you to place a smaller overlay into a larger one.

To Expand a User Area or Page

1. Open the CHOOSE OVERLAY MENU in the Toolbox.  This is a picture of the Overlay Menu Key in the toolbox.

2. Select Expand User Area or Page.

This is a picture of the Expand User key in the Choose Overlay Menu.

3. Select one of the following options Expand User Area or Expand a Page depending on the function you want to do.

This is a picture of the two options you can select to expand.

Note: If selecting Expand a Page, the Pages you will see to choose from will pull from the User Area you are currently in. If you want a Page from a different Area, you will have to switch to that Area first, then activate Expand a User Area or Page.

4a. If Expand a User Area was chosen, select the user area you want to expand.

This is a picture of the 6 user User Areas you can select to expand.

In this example, if you currently have your customization in Unity 15 Child and want to increase to the 32 location, you will select Unity 15 Child.

NOTE:  Your device will not allow you to select a 36 location overlay to expand!

4b. If Expand a Page was chosen, select a page to expand from the page names shown.  You may need to select More Items to find your page located on a different screen.

This is the screen you will see when Expand a Page is selected. Choose a page.

5. Now select the overlay size you want to expand to. In this example, Unity 15 Child is a 15-location overlay so you can only expand to an 36-location overlay.

This is a picture of the user areas that you can pick to expand.

6. Now you will see a yellow box confirming you want to expand the user area you selected to the 36 location overlay.  Select Yes to continue.

This is a picture that confirms that this is the action you want to do.

7. You will now receive a yellow box telling you that the Expansion is Complete.  Select OK

This window shows you the Expansion is complete.

The next time you go to your Unity 15 Child overlay it should look like the picture below.

This is a picture of the converted 15 location overlay to 32.

Now you will only have to assign the blank keys, not the entire overlay.

IMPORTANT NOTE: After you Expand your User Area, you may want to go to Rename User Area in the Choose Overlay Menu  and rename it.  The device will not rename your user area to the upgraded overlay size.  Example:  The name of the file will remain Unity 15 Child even though it was upgraded to the 36 location.
