My AlphaTalker has Tools and Record Lights Flashing. What Should I Do?

If the Tools and Record lights are flashing back and fourth, your device is locked up.

This usually happens when you are erasing a message. IMPORTANT!  When the ERASE light is on, do not touch any other buttons or keys.

There are two things you can try to correct the problem:  a Warm Boot or a Complete System Reset.

  1. Warm Boot: you will not lose your vocabulary
     a. Plug the charger in and turn device On.
     b. Activate the Reset Button. To do this, turn the device over and open the door on the right hand side at the bottom of AlphaTalker.  If you see the battery pack, then you've opened the wrong door.
     c. Once the correct door is open, look inside and to the right. You'll see a small round flat button. (The button is  black on an AlphaTalker II and white on the original AlphaTalker)  This is the Reset button. Push this button.

d. Once you push the Reset Button, the device will turn off. Turn the device back on and see if it works.
     e. If it still doesn't work, try a complete system reset.

  2. Complete System Reset:
      IMPORTANT NOTE!
This will reset the AlphaTalker to the default configuration, and all vocabulary will be lost!
       a. Take the keyguard and overlay off.
       b. Plug the charger in.
       c. Turn the device On.
       d. Push and hold down the three corner keys at locations A1, (Set Scanning Speed); location  H1, (Scan or Step) and location H4, (Auto Power Down).
       e. While holding down the three corner keys, , push and let go of the Reset Button.
       f. Let go of the three corner keys. The ERASE button in the control panel should turn On.
       g. Do not touch any keys until the ERASE light turns Off.
       h. If the ERASE light does not turn On, repeat the steps 2a through 2g.

Note: If these steps do not stop the Tools and Record lights from flashing back and fourth, your device will have to be sent in for repair.  Please call the PRC Service Department and have your device at hand.  1-800-262-1990.
