My Device's Voice does not Sound Like it Used To!
The SPEECH menu is available for synthesized speech. From it you can choose the voice you want the Pathfinder to use for speaking messages and for speaking auditory prompts. Other options allow you to refine the voice. The Pathfinder offers DECtalk© and RealSpeak™ for English speaking countries. You can also add words to and delete words from the Speech Dictionary in this menu.
Select a Speaking Voice
1. Press the STATUS key twice and select the SPEECH MENU from the System Menus.
2. DECtalk speech is the default. If you want to change to RealSpeak, select More Items and select RealSpeak in the Synthesizer option. Wait a few seconds and the RealSpeak menu will appear.
3. In the Voice Type option select Main Voice or Auditory Prompt Voice.
4. In the Voice option, step through the voices until you see the voice you want to use. The choices will be different depending on the synthesizer you selected in Step 1.
DECtalk options include Perfect Paul, Beautiful Betty, Huge Harry, Frail Frank, Kit the Kid, Rough Rita, Uppity Ursula, Doctor Dennis, Whispering Wendy, and Variable Val.
RealSpeak voices include TOM and JENNIFER.
5. When you have finished, activate OK.
NOTE: Use the Test Speech option to listen to the voice.
Speech Rate, Average Pitch and Pitch Range may be adjusted to fine tune your voice.
