How do I Transfer Memory from One SpringBoard to Another?

When you plug the MTI-Serial cable into the SERIAL PORT connector on the side of each SpringBoard, you can transfer vocabulary from one SpringBoard to another. If you do not have the MTI-IBM cable (#11819, also called Null Modem), you can order it from PRC.

To Transfer Vocabulary from One SpringBoard to Another:

1. With the both SpringBoards turned OFF, plug the MTI-Serial-VG-to-IBM-PC cable into the connector with the picture of a computer by it on the side of each SpringBoard. (The ends of the cable are the same so it does not matter which end goes into which connector.)

2. Turn the device ON and go to the Toolbox.

3. Activate the TRANSFER MEMORY MENU on each SpringBoard.

4. Make sure the Buad Rate option is the same for both SpringBoards.

5.  If you have the option, MTI Method, make sure it is set to AUTO or SERIAL.  Older versions of software will not have this option.

6. On the SpringBoard that contains the vocabulary you want to transfer, activate one of the Save options to begin the saving procedure. NOTE:  If you select Save One User Area, choose the user area you want to save.

7. On the SpringBoard that is going to receive the vocabulary, activate one of the Load options to start the loading procedure.  NOTE:  If you select  Load One User Area, you must select one of the 6 user areas to load into.  IMPORTANT NOTE! The user area selected will be erased, then loaded with new vocabulary, so all previous customization in this user area will be erased.

If you select the option to Load a file, the list of file options will appear on your device.  Select the file you want to load.  You may receive a yellow box on your screen.  You must select Yes to Erase the vocabulary before loading.  Merge is not a functional option at this time and may scramble your vocabulary.

8. The transfer takes place automatically and you will see the message, Memory Transfer in Progress, on both devices.

9.  When the transfer is finished, you will see, Memory Transfer is Complete. Select OK on both devices to exit.

IMPORTANT NOTE!   If you transferred One User Area, you may need to enter the CHOOSE OVERLAY MENU and select  Switch User Area to change to the User Area where you transferred your vocabulary.

NOTE:  If you want to transfer specific Activities from one device to another, first load the Activities into a blank User Area in the device. Then save and load that Area.

NOTE:  You can also transfer an Area or the entire device contents to the Vantage.  In the TRANSFER MEMORY MENU activate the Save as Vantage option until On is visible in the box. Then perform a regular MTI to a computer. Finally, use the MTI to load the file from the computer into the Vantage.
