Using the Icon Tutor
Search Icon Tutor
Available in the REVIEW VOCABULARY MENU.
Use this option to help you find sequences for specific words.
Let’s say you want to know where the word "dog" is stored.
Select the Search Icon Tutor option.
You see your Spelling page. Type in the word you want to search for, in this case, "dog" then select OK.
The Icon Tutor searches its database and shows you all the sequences where the word "dog" is used.
You can write down the sequences for later use (or memorize them). The word "Watch" is used in two different sequences. Some words will be used in more sequences; some in less or none.
Tutor Auto-Update and Update Icon Tutor
Available in the REVIEW VOCABULARY MENU.
Your device automatically sets Tutor-Auto-Update to On or Off according to the vocabulary MAP you are using (not all MAPS use icon sequencing). In most cases there will be no reason to change this setting.
However, if you find that the automatic updating of your icon tutor is taking a very long time, you can turn this option to OFF.
If you manually turn Tutor-Auto-Update to Off and then make changes to your vocabulary, you must select Update Icon Tutor to save your changes. Any new searches will include the updated changes.
Available in the REVIEW VOCABULARY MENU.
This option is a way to streamline an Icon Tutor update by excluding those pages and activities that don't generate vocabulary. This option is for the use of MAP developers.
ICON TUTOR Key in the Activity Row
Available in the REVIEW VOCABULARY MENU.
All of the Unity MAPs have an ICON TUTOR key in the Activity Row. In some MAPs it is in the device TOOLS Activity .
When you select this key, you can search the Icon Tutor from your MAP without having to go to the REVIEW VOCABULAY MENU. Just type in the word you are looking for and select OK.
Unity – Icon-Tutor-on-the-Fly
Available in the FEEDBACK MENU.
When this is ON, you can spell a word and find out if it is stored under a sequence in your vocabulary.
Go to your spelling keyboard.
Spell a word and select a space or punctuation mark.
If the word is stored in your vocabulary, your device will display the sequence(s) for it in the Icon/Word Prediction area.
Unity – Icon Tutor View Delay
Available in the FEEDBACK MENU.
Use this with Icon-Tutor-on-the-Fly turned ON.
When Icon-Tutor-on-the-Fly finds a word in your vocabulary and displays its sequence(s), use this option to select the amount of seconds (1-10) you would like to see the sequence(s) displayed.
Unity – Icon Tutor View Count
Available in the FEEDBACK MENU.
Use this with Icon-Tutor-on-the-Fly turned ON.
This allows you to select the number of sequences (1-5) you would like to see displayed.
