Settings in the Maintenance Menu

Maintenance Menu Options  Maintenance menu keyMaint. menu options.

The MAINTENANCE MENU contains options related mostly to your device system. You will not use these options frequently, but may need to set one or two of them now and then to customize your device or check on and fix a system problem you may be having.

Depending on the device you are using, you may not have all the options discussed below.

System Lock Settings

System Lock Settings menu

System Lock

When System Lock is ON you can still use your vocabulary to speak but the use of the TOOLS key on the front of the case is severely limited.  Only certain menus in the Toolbox will work. For instance, if the system is locked and you select the TOOLS key on the front of the case,  you will see a warning similar to this:

 System Lock Warning.

A box with slightly different wording appears if you press other keys.

Press and hold the TOOLS key for 5 seconds to open the TOOLS menu. Select the Toolbox key.  You will be able to use some of the Tools and menus, but not all of them.  You can open the MAINTENANCE MENU, select the System Lock Settings option and turn System Lock OFF.  This puts your device back into normal use mode.

System Lock Password

You can also lock the system with a password. This means that in a locked system you cannot go from CORE or your Home page to the Toolbox without entering your password.

·        Turn System Lock Password ON.

·        Select the Change System Lock Password option.

·        Spell a password and select OK.

Now when you are using your MAP and select the TOOLS key on the front of the case, you will see the yellow “System Lock is On” warning box. If you hold the TOOLS key for 5 seconds, you will see your Spelling Page where you are asked to type in your password.  This will take you to the Toolbox where you can open the MAINTENANCE menu and turn System Lock OFF.

Pulldown Menu Button Blue Menu button

This allows you to Enable or Disable the small pulldown menu to the right of the Status Area.

Windows Power Management menu

Windows Power Management

You can use the options in this menu whether your device has an internal computer or not.

I/O Function

You can choose what you want your device to do when you select the ON/OFF key  on the front of the case to turn your device Off.

The default is Stand By, with Hibernate and Shutdown as alternate choices.

Stand By

This is the default setting. When you use the front ON/OFF On/Off button button to turn your device Off, you must use the front ON/OFF button (or a switch) to turn your device back on. In this mode your device will come back up more quickly than the other two modes. It also returns you to where you were before it went to sleep.

Shutdown

If you select this option, when you use the front ON/OFF button to turn your device Off, you must use the back ON/OFF button to turn your device back On.

This option completely shuts down your device –  the same way the “Shutdown” command does on a computer.  In this state your device uses almost no energy. It also means that it will take your device longer to come back up when you turn it back on.

Hibernate

If you select this option, when you use the front ON/OFF button to turn your device Off, you must use the back ON/OFF button to turn your device back On.

This is very similar to Sleep except that your device goes more deeply “asleep”. Therefore it takes a little longer to go into hiberation and to come out of it when you wake it up.  Unlike Sleep, however, you must use the back ON/OFF button to turn the device back On.

Shutdown Windows

If you have set your I/O Function to Stand By or Hibernate, this option allows you  to completely shutdown your device without changing your ON/OFF button.

Restart Windows

This gives you a way to restart Windows without having to go to the Windows Start menu. You should rarely have to use this.

The following options help your device conserve battery power.

Auto Backlight Dim

This will automatically dim your backlight after the amount of time you set passes.

Auto Backlight Off

This will turn your backlight off automatically after the amount of time you set passes.

Auto Sleep

This will put your device to sleep automatically after the amount of time you set passes.  Use the front ON/OFF button or a switch to wake it back up.

Hardware Diagnostics

If you have problems with your device and call the PRC Service Department, you may be asked to check some items in this menu. Otherwise, you should leave this option alone.

The one option you may use occasionally is the Phone Configuration menu. If for some reason you cannot get to the Phone Configuration Menu from your PHONE Page or Activity, this menu is an alternative way to configure your cell phone.

System Information Box

Use this area to check for information about your device’s system. You can find your software version, whether Data Logging is on or off and how much synthesized memory you have left, etc.

NOTE: You may need to give the information in the System Information box to a service representative if you call in because of a problem.

Erase All Vocabulary

If you select this, the system erases all its memory and resets itself to blank User Areas. You must go to the USER AREA MENU and re-load original vocabulary into each Area.

TIP:  If you just want to return your device to its original state, use Reset to Factory Defaults

Reset to Factory Defaults

If you want to return your NuVoice software to its original state, select this option.  All of your User Areas will be re-set exactly the way they were when you received the device from PRC.

If you have made vocabulary changes and want to keep them, perform a memory transfer before you select this option..

This option effects the NuVoice software only. It has no effect on the integrated computer applications or the device's hard drive, if you have that option.

Enable Icon Set Menu

This option shows you the different icon sets that are available in your device. Icon sets are an option that you purchase.  If you purchase an icon set (or sets) when you purchase your device, they will be ready to use (ON) when you receive your device. If you decide to purchase an icon set later on, call the PRC Sales Department. You will receive a key code. When you select the new icon set from the menu you will be asked to enter the key code before you can turn the icon set on and use it.

Error Reporting

The default is ON.  Your device reports any system errors that occur by describing the error in a red box on your display screen.  You will also see a box on your display that asks you to write down what happened and report it to PRC.  You are given instructions for continuing.

Battery Menu

This menu gives you information about the status of your batteries.  You may be asked for some of this information should you have to call the PRC Service Department about your batteries.

Enter Shipping Mode

If you ever have to ship your device somewhere, or if you are not going to use it for a lengthy period of time, always put the device in Shipping Mode. This will conserve your batteries and prevent accidental activations during transit that could harm your device.

When you select Enter Shipping Mode, you see a message asking if you really want to enter Ship Mode. Answer YES or NO. (NO is the same as Cancel.)

If you answer YES, unplug the battery charger. A yellow warning box will also remind you to unplug the charger. Once the charger is unplugged, your device will enter Shipping Mode.

To Get Out of Shipping Mode

Plug in your battery charger. On the back of your device case,  press and hold the master ON/OFF button until it emits a blue light.

Enable Integrated Device

You will use this option if you originally purchased a “designated” device (without the use of the internal computer) and later you purchase the use of the internal computer. You will receive a password from the PRC Sales Department which you must enter into your device before the integrated functions will become active. Select this option, enter your password and exit the menu.

Language System

This option allows you to turn on and use one of the Language Systems in your device, such as Essence™ or the Unity®. Language Systems are an option you purchase. If you purchase one Language System at the time you purchase your device and then decide later that you would also like to purchase a different Language System, call the PRC Sales Department. You will be given a key code. When you go to turn the new language system on the first time you will be asked to enter the key code.

Built-in Devices

This turns the rear-facing camera ON.

Note about the Camera: If you want to add a camera to your device, you must first turn Camera OFF in the Built-In Devices sub-menu. You may also have to install a new driver to go with a new camera.

Enter a New Feature Code

To use any optional features that you did not purchase at the time you ordered your device, you must call the PRC Sales Department (800-262-1933) to purchase the feature. Select the feature you want from this option and give them the code you see in the Text Display Area.

Update Software

When software updates become available they will be placed on the PRC Web site as downloadable files.

·        Plug your USB flash drive into your computer.

·        Go to the PRC website, www.prentrom.com and click on your device. Select the file you want and download it to your computer's desktop.

·        Copy the downloaded file to your USB flash drive.

·        Turn on your device and plug in the battery charger.

·        Copy the software update from your computer to your USB drive.

·        Unplug the USB from your computer and plug it into your device.

·        Go to the MAINTENANCE MENU in the Toolbox and select the Update Software option.

·        The update takes place. When it is finished, remove your USB flash drive from your device.

·        Once your device is running the new software, you may unplug the battery charger if you want to.

Activate Windows

This option is only visible if you had to restore your Windows operating system.

If for some reason you have to re-install the Windows OS, you will be asked to select this option.  It installs an unregistered copy of Windows on your device.  You have 30 days to register the application and you will receive automatic reminders of this on your device until the 30 days elapse at which time you will no longer
