Transferring Notebooks Using the Serial Port on a Pathfinder.

IMPORTANT!  Make sure the Pathfinder battery charger is plugged in before transferring any Notebooks!

You can save your Notebooks on a disk or transfer text files from your computer to a Pathfinder Notebook using the MTI. You can open the Notebook on your computer and use a word processing program to add to/edit the text in your Notebook, if you wish. When you reload the Notebook from your computer into your Pathfinder, the Notebook will contain whatever changes you made to it.

To save a Notebook onto a Disk:

Turn OFF your computer and your Pathfinder.  Connect the cable that came with your MTI (#11819, also called Null Modem) to your computer and your Pathfinder. Turn your computer ON and insert the MTI CD. Open the MTI program. You may want to copy this MTI program to your desktop for future transfers.

2.  In the MTI program on the computer, select Pathfinder from the Options menu.

3.  In the Options menu, select Ports.  Make a note of the baud rate that is selected.

4.  On the front of the Pathfinder case, select the STATUS button twice.

5.  Open the TRANSFER MEMORY MENU.

6. Select #7 - More Items and look at the Baud Rate option. This baud rate and the baud rate that you noted earlier in the MTI Options menu must be the same. If they are not, change either one until they match.   

7.  Select the MTI Method option until it says AUTO.

NOTE: It may take a few seconds for the Option name to change in the box after you select it.

5.  Select the OK button to exit the menu.

To save a Notebook:

1.   Select the STATUS button twice.

2.  Open the NOTEBOOK MENU.

3.  Select option #7- More Items then choose option #6 - Save Notebook to Disk.

4.  Your Notebooks are listed. If you have a lot of Notebooks, you may have to use More Items to see them all.  Select the Notebook you want to save.

5. On your computer, you should see a screen that says Save Memory to Disk.  Select the location on the computer where you want to save the file - such as to a disk or to the desktop.

6.  At File Name type in the name for your file. Then select OK.

7. Your transfer should be very quick. A message will appear, "Memory Transfer is Complete."Activate OK to exit when the transfer is done.

To Load a Notebook

NOTE:  You must have a Notebook saved as a text only file (.txt) and know the location where you saved it.

1.  Make sure your cable is plugged into your communication aid.

2.  In your Transfer Memory Menu, make sure MTI Method is set to Auto and the Baud Rate matches the MTI software.

3.  Select the STATUS button twice.

4.  Open the NOTEBOOK MENU.

5.  Select Load Notebook From Disk.

6.  On your computer you see the Restore Memory from File screen.  Select the notebook that you have saved as a text only file.  Note: You may need to change the "Look In" assignment to find the file you want to load.

7.  Select the Notebook you want to load.

8.  On the Pathfinder, spell the name for the notebook you are loading and select OK.

9.  Once the Notebook is loaded. Activate OK to exit.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Notebooks or files on your computer that you want to load into the Pathfinder must first be saved on the computer in TEXT ONLY format (  .txt  ).
