How do I Modify my Scan Pattern in ECO2?

Modify Scan Pattern is an option when you are creating or modifying CORE and Pages.

As well as being able to use “regular” scan patterns, the ECO software allows you to create your own scan pattern based on user-definable blocks.  This customized block scanning means you can scan any keys in any order, and even have different patterns for individual pages.

Custom scanning is a good tool to use with visual scene pages. Let’s look in detail at one example.

We will use the 1 Switch Auto Scan, Row/Column Access Method. If you are not set up for this, do the following:

Open the ACCESS METHOD MENU in the Toolbox.

Select Choose Different Access Method.

Select 1 Switch

Select 1 Switch Auto Scan, Row/Column

Select OK.

Now go to your CORE and select the PAGES key. This shows the Pages Key in the Activity row

Select the SCENE  BOOKS key My Scenes key in the pages page.

Select the GOLDILOCKS key Goldilocks key in My Books page

Select the SETUP key Set up key located on top of the case. on the front of your device case. Select any key. (If you have a USB mouse plugged into your device, right click and select Setup.)

Select the Modify Scan Pattern key. Modify Scan Pattern key.

Modify Scan Pattern page.

The top left quarter of the page shows the Preview screen. When you hit the button marked Preview at the bottom left, you’ll see a real-time preview of what the current scan looks like.

Just below the preview is a box that shows each step in a scan pattern.

In this instance, the first scan starts at Row 1 Column 1 and highlights a single row and 10 columns. The next step is to move to Row 2 Column 1 and highlight one row and 10 columns. This happens all the way through to Row 6. This is a typical single switch row/column scan pattern. We are going to change it to suit our Page.

Select the Make New Scan Pattern key Make new scan pattern key. from the menu.

This shows the screen where a scanning pattern can be set.

Notice the directions in the Text Display Area.

To start our custom scan, select the GOLDILOCKS key.  Goldilocks icon.

We want this to be a single scan, not a block scan, so select the GOLDILOCKS key again.

Selecting a scan pattern.

Notice that the GOLDILOCKS key is now outlined is red. This will be your first scan.

Now select the top left key in the scene picture. Then select the bottom right corner in the scene picture.

The scene is now outlined in red and will be your second scan.

Now select each of the three story keys on the far right of the Page. Make each one an individual scan. That is, select each key twice.

Select the NEXT PAGE key twice.

Select the GO BACK key twice.

Now select the Text Display Area to return to the Modify Page Scan menu.

Preview key will show scan pattern set.

Select the Preview key to see how your scan works. Notice that the scan box now names the rows and columns you have selected.

If you want to change the order of the scans (rows/columns), you can use the up and down arrows to move between scan blocks, then the Move Up and Move Down keys to determine which block goes where. The scan starts from the top of the list and goes down.

When you are happy with your scan, select OK to exit the menu and try it out.
