How do I Charge my ECO2 / Troubleshooting Tips.

Always use the battery charger that came with your device.  Any other charger may damage your batteries.

The ECO2 has an internal battery and a replaceable battery.

How long your batteries will last on one charge depends entirely upon how much you are using your device. If you are talking, listening to MP3s, playing a DVD and using a computer all at the same, or nearly the same time, your batteries will not last as long as they will if you are mostly doing just one thing on your device for most of the day. You may find you can get around 8 hours of use out of a charge or you may find that you use your device so heavily that you only get 2-4 hours out of a single charge.

You will have to spend a few days or a week using your device every day in different ways to learn how much battery life you will get from a single charge.

Charging

Charging LEDs located on the top of the ECO2

When your batteries get low and need recharged, plug in your charger.  When the charger is plugged in you will see the Lightening Bolt icon blink rapidly at the top of the ECO and the Battery Status bar turn blue.  When your batteries are fully charged, your Charging LED will blink slowly.

Check your battery status in the Status Display Area

Battery Status

The Battery Status bar graph in the Status Display Area on your screen gives you the following information:

Full Battery:  mostly green lines, a few red, a few yellow

Plug in Charger:  no green lines at all

Nearly Dead:  red lines only (plug in charger now); you will also see only red lines if the Battery Door is off the unit. The Battery Door must be on the unit or the replaceable battery will not work.

Charger Plugged in:  blue lines

Battery Door Status.

The Battery Door on the right side of the case has a small window in it where you can check the amount of battery charge you have left.

For more detailed information about your battery status enter the Battery Menu

Go to the Toolbox and select the MAINTENANCE MENU

Select the Battery Menu Battery Menu. option.

 Battery Status Menu.

You can activate the Refresh Battery Status option to make sure you are seeing the latest battery information.

Low Battery Warning

When the batteries in your device get low, you will hear a Low Battery Warning.  This is a two-toned running beep.  When the Low Battery warning sounds, you can no longer do any storing.  The warning will continue to sound at intervals until the batteries are dead.  When the batteries are dead, the device powers down completely and you cannot use it.

You will also see the Low Battery LED blinking in the IR window on the front of the case. There are three LEDs near the bottom of this window. The Low Battery LED is the one in the middle.

When you hear the Low Battery warning and/or see the blinking Low Battery LED, plug in the battery charger.  The LED to the left of the Low Battery LED will begin to blink. This LED indicates that your charger is plugged in.

A complete charge, from dead battery to fully-charged battery, will take 9-10 hours.

 Troubleshooting

If when you plug your charger into the ECO2, and the device does not start charging after a minute or two, the first thing you can do is make sure all your connections are tight.  Verify that the charger is plugged into a working outlet.  If your charger is plugged into a surge protector, make sure the protector is turned on.

Next, look inside the charging jack and verify that there is a silver pin in the center of the jack.  If the pin is missing, please call PRC Service to report the problem.  1-800-262-1990

Now make sure your charging tip is plugged into the ECO2.  Don't push too hard!  You should not see any silver on the charger tip when plugged in properly.

If you still are not getting a blinking charging light, your charger may have gone bad and may need to be replaced.  You can test your charger by testing it with a common volt meter or by taking it to a local Radio Shack or equivalent store.  The battery output current for your ECO2 charger should read between 17 and 18 Volts.  If your charger is not putting out the proper voltage or if you are still having charging issues, contact the PRC Service department. 1-800-262-1990.

Storing your ECO2

If you plan to store your device for a month or more without using it:  put the unit in Shipping Mode. Open the MAINTENANCE MENU in the Toolbox. Select Battery Menu and then select Shipping Mode. Unplug the battery charger and store it in a safe place.
