How do I Reset My Pathfinder (software version 1.09 and lower)

Below are some basic resets that you can try if your device is not working properly. Resets are especially helpful if your find you can't turn your Pathfinder Off or your touch screen is not responding.

Warm Boot Reset

NOTE: You will lose any vocabulary that was entered since the last time the device was turned Off.

This is a picture of the Tools and I/O buttons on a Pathfinder.

1. Hold down the Tools button which is located right under the I/O (On/Off) button.
2. Continue to hold down the Tools key and press and hold down the I/O button.
3. Let go of the Tools button.
4. Then let go of the I/O button.

This will restart your pathfinder and it should then work properly for you.

Pathfinder 4-Button Reset

If the warm boot did not work, try a 4-Button Reset. This is a stronger reset.

NOTE:  You will loose any vocabulary that was entered since the device was turned off last and this will force you into a screen calibration at the end of the reset.

This is a picture of the 4 buttons to the left of the display on the Pathfinder.

To perform a 4 button reset

1. Plug in the Pathfinder charger. You must do this.

2. Hold down all four buttons located on the case to the left of your display.  These are the I/O (On/Off) button, Tools button, Status button, and the User Defined Key.

3. Release all 4 buttons at once.

4. The Pathfinder will restart and ask you to calibrate the screen.

5. Follow the calibration cross + .  With a pencil eraser or stylus, tap the + each time it stops moving .  The unit will begin to count down from 30 seconds. Tap the screen  before the timer hits 0 to save the new calibration.

Once the screen is calibrated, the Pathfinder should work properly.

Hard Boot Reset (Battery Reset)

If you are still experiencing trouble with your device after doing a warm boot reset and a hard reset, the next step is to remove the battery connector inside the device. This should be done only if you have completed the first two resets and they were not successful.

NOTE:  You will lose any vocabulary that was entered since the device was turned off last and this will force you into a screen calibration at the end of the reset.

To Perform  a Hard Boot Reset:

WARNING!  Make sure the battery charger is unplugged.

1.  Remove the battery door on the left side of the bottom case beside where you plug in the charging jack.  The battery door will have 3 raised lines on it.

This is a picture of how to remove the battery door.

2.  You will see a ribbon that stretches over the piece of foam attached to the battery pack.

This is a picture of the ribbon you use to pull the battery pack.

3.  Pull on the ribbon until the battery pack comes out of the case about 2 inches.  You do not have to remove the battery pack completely to reset the device.

4.  Push the battery pack back into the case until you feel it click into place. It is re-connected when you tug gently on the ribbon and the battery remains in place.  Put the battery door back on.
