What is the best way to learn this software?
- Vantage/Vanguard PASS help – (Keyboard shortcut = F1)
- Very easy to use to learn the software
- Short sections
- Built into the software so there’s no need for manuals
- Just do it. Try out the different options for Vocabulary
Display Options under the Vocabulary tool in the Menubar.
You will find what works best for you.
What are the favorite features?
- Browse Icons – in the Tools menu (Version 4.0)
Allows you to see what pictures are available
without having to go to modifying an activity or a page.
- Write with Icons – Keyboard shortcut = F11
There are 2 places to make modifications in the
way the icon sequences appear:
*Select File in the Menubar and choose Preferences.
Turn some of the options on/off to see how they work.
Try having Sequence Choices ON
*Select F11 to open Write with Icons. You will
have more choices to make (Version 4.0). Take special
note of the following:
Appearance -
- Icons on key background
Some like this un-checked because it
takes up too much ink when printing.
- Icons only (no typed words)
Some like to type the words under the
icon after saving it into a Word document.
Functionality –
- Icon sequence choices
- Automatic Phrase Handling
Will automatically change the sequence for “I want” (for example) into I + WANTED after making the choice for “I” then typing
in “want”
One of the greatest benefits of the emulator is to do all customizing including vocabulary modifications, and importing pictures and wav or MP3 files, then transferring all of the changes into the person’s device. It is easiest to use the USB Thumb Drive that is included with the device.
Be sure to take advantage of this.
