How do I Reset My Vantage?

Below are some basic resets that you can try if your device is not working properly

If you have been entering new custom vocabulary, turn the device OFF (this will store today's programming) and then back ON before starting any reset troubleshooting. This will prevent any vocabulary entered today from being lost.  The resets that follow will not erase previously stored vocabulary.

1. Soft Reset

If you notice that your touch screen has stopped responding, press and hold the I/O button for 15 seconds

reset and does not involve the actual Reset button.

2.  Hard Reset

If a soft reset did not fix your problem, try a hard reset with the Reset button on the back of the device.

The Reset button is inside a small hole located under the leg of the table-stand on the back of your device.  You will need a pen tip or an open paperclip.  CAUTION:  If you use an open paperclip, be very careful to press only the white the button inside the hole.  There are fragile traces on the main circuit board that can be scratched which will damage the circuit board and your device's performance.

If you have an original Vantage, the Reset button and the Battery Door Tab will be located on the opposite sides of the picture above.  The Reset button is under the right leg of the stand and the battery door tab on the left side under the serial number.

With the pen tip or open paperclip, press once on the Reset button to reset your device. You do not have to press hard.

3. Battery Reset

If you are still experiencing trouble with your device after doing a soft reset and selecting the reset button, the next step will be to remove the battery connector inside the device. This should only be done if you have completed the first two resets and they were not successful.

1.  Unplug your battery charger.

2.  Gently turn the device face down. Using a pen tip or a small flathead screwdriver, insert the pen tip or the head of the screwdriver into the battery door slot and push down.  This will push down on the tab inside the slot, popping the door off the side of the device.

3.  VERY IMPORTANT!  When the door is off, take note which side the red wire is closest to --it will either be closest to the charging jack or closest to the battery pack.  Pinch these two wires just above the white connector and gently rock the connector back and forth while lifting to unplug the connector.

NOTE:  The picture above shows a battery with the wires and connector attached.  The original Vantage device will have a battery with a pull string on the end. Simply pull the string to disconnect the battery.  Reconnect the battery after 15 seconds by sliding the battery back in.

4.  Leave the connector unplugged for 15 seconds.  Re-insert the connector very carefully, making sure the red wire is still closest to the correct side.  WARNING!  If the connector is installed backward, it will cause damage to the device and the Vantage will have to be mailed in to be serviced.
