Why does my Clear-Display key not Work?

When the Clear Display key does not work, it is usually because you have a Notebook open by accident.

Whenever a Notebook is open, the Clear Display key is disabled until the Notebook is closed. The key is disabled so that you don't accidently erase an open Notebook.

To Close a Notebook:

1. Activate the SYSTEM key twice. (This key is the third one down on the left front of the case.) This shows you the Toolbox menus.

2. Select the Notebook menu.

3. Select the key labeled Close Notebook.

4. You will see, “Notebook has changed, would you like to save changes?”  Select NO

NOTE for Step 4:  If you deliberately opened a Notebook and were working in it, you might want to answer YES to this question to save any work you did.

5. Select OK to exit the Notebook menu.

Add some text to your display and test the Clear Display key. If the Clear Display key works properly you are finished.

If the Clear Display key is still not working properly you will need to check the key assignment using the Assign Key Menu.

1. Activate the SYSTEM key twice.

2. Select the Assign Key menu.

3. The message, “Select the key to view or modify” will appear at the top of the display.

4. Select the Clear Display key.

You should see the following screen.

5. If you do not see <CLEAR-DISPLAY> listed as the Minspeak, Spell and Computer assignments, you will need to re-assign <CLEAR-DISPLAY> to each category.

To Re-assign CLEAR DISPLAY

1. Select the Minspeak Assignment box.

7. Repeat these steps for the Spelling and Computer assignments.

8. When you have finished, select OK to exit the Assign Key menu.

The Clear Display key should now be working properly.
