PRC Profile of Success - Michael Earl Seip, Jr.
My name is Michael Earl Seip, Jr. I am 33 years old and I have cerebral palsy.
When I was a baby, I lived at home with my mom and dad. When I was 20 years old, I moved to Good Shepherd Home in Allentown, Pennsylvania. I WENT TO SCHOOL. At school they made something out of paper. It had words and number and colors on it. I had a headpointer. First I hit (one-hit) colors and then I hit (one-hit) numbers to pick out words. After I had the TouchTalker, I had the Light Talker, and then I had a Liberator. Now I have a Pathfinder and I use a switch on the side of my head to access my Pathfinder.
There are five people at Good Shepherd Home who use a Pathfinder. We have a speech group here at Good Shepherd that meets on Monday afternoons. There I find ways to use my device when I go out. Sometimes I use my Pathfinder notebook to keep phone numbers and I use the notebook calendar when I have to go to the doctor. I just got my Pathfinder about eight months ago. It helps me set up a trip when I want to go out somewhere. I can tell someone what I need and I can talk to women. I use my Pathfinder to work my computer and control my TV and VCR and CD player. And the Pathfinder works the elevator!!
Good Shepherd has a sports team. The name of the team is Big Wheels. We do bowling and bocce. We go to Connecticut for tournaments in the summertime. I go to bowling every week. I use my Pathfinder calculator to add up my score. I have someone write my score on my bowling card, then I calculate it with my Pathfinder.
Without my Pathfinder it would not be easy to tell someone what I want. Thanks to PRC for my device. It is my mouth for talking.
