Profile of Success - Javier Chavez

Hello friends! My name is Javier Chavez and I live in Bakersfield, California. I moved to the U.S. when I was nine years old.

Yes, I want to do more -- more successful things. If Jesus Christ wants, I will be an advocate for AAC because I like helping people and know what a difference my Pathfinder communication aid has made in my life. I know that I cannot do that much because of my diagnosis but my heart is willing. I currently use a Pathfinder, a cell phone, and a computer for my communication. I have an electric wheelchair for my mobility needs. I started with picture communication about 18 years ago, then began using a PRC Touch Talker, and then a Liberator prior to acquiring my Pathfinder.

I have traveled to Washington, D.C. and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to present speeches. I used my Pathfinder for the speeches. I also went to Sacramento several times to give speeches. Before going to these conferences, I prepared the messages myself by composing them on my Pathfinder and using notebooks. In my speeches I spoke of what I do in my daily life, in school and at work.

Right now I am attending college for my G.E.D. diploma.

Here in Bakersfield I am currently volunteering at a library which is called Kern Assistive Technology Center.

Sincerely,
Javier Chavez

In his autobiography, Javier delivers a more detailed version of his AAC journey and success with technology.
