Profile of Success - Corrie Sorge
"The
Liberator plays an important role in my life . . . I have Cerebral Palsy and
as I go through school, I use it more and more. I carry it everywhere so I call
it my baby." states Corrie, a first-year law student at University of Miami
in Florida.
Last year Corrie received her B.A. in Political Science from Wright State University and continues to further her education with the dream of becoming a lawyer. "My interest is in environmental and family law," she expresses. Along with attending meetings relative to the two areas of law, for the last three years she has also served as a summer intern in Washington, DC for a defense/immigration attorney. By becoming a lawyer, she hopes to impact people's lives.
The Liberator has greatly enhanced Corrie's life. Since her speech is difficult to understand sometimes, her Liberator serves as a backup when people cannot understand her. The Liberator also serves as a writing tool for taking notes and writing papers for school. Before using the Liberator, she used a desktop computer. She has found that the Liberator has enhanced her ability to produce oral and written language.
Corrie's determination has been a major determinant in her success. "I measure my success by setting goals and meeting them," she says. One of her biggest obstacles in life is getting individuals to pay attention to her and give her respect despite of her disability and small size. "It's a struggle. I try to be outgoing and friendly, while projecting a positive attitude." Not only does Corrie strive with school, she also competes in the Ohio wheelchair games in the swimming competition and has set three national records."
Corrie, we wish you the best of luck in all your life adventures!
