WOOSTER, OHIO – January 5, 2010 – PRC (Prentke Romich Company), makers of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices, is offering signed copies of the book “Year Of Our Lord,” plus a meet and greet with the author, at the Assistive Technology Industry Association (ATIA) conference later this month.

Pearson, and free copies of the book will be available at PRC's booth #813 on Thursday, January 27 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. “Year Of Our Lord” tells the inspirational true story of a boy without the ability to speak due to cerebral palsy, yet he sings in the church choir. PRC is honored to be his AAC device of choice and be part of his story.

About The Book

Written by T.R. Pearson and photographed by Langdon Clay, “Year Of Our Lord: Faith Hope, And Harmony In The Mississippi Delta” follows the story of Lucas McCarty. He is the only white congregant in the African-American Trinity House of Prayer Holiness church. Lucas is without the ability to speak due to cerebral palsy, yet he sings there in the church choir. “Year of Our Lord” is a portrait of courage, acceptance and grace, rendered in the lyrical prose of T.R. Pearson and the haunting photographs of Langdon Clay.

Notable actors and authors have come out in support of “Year Of Our Lord: Faith Hope, And Harmony In The Mississippi Delta.”

Morgan Freeman writes, "It is a wonderful human story, deftly written and Langdon’s photography is so evocative it makes me homesick. A wonderful read, especially for those with roots in the Miss’ippi Delta."

Author John Grisham praises the book as "an unlikely journey into the troubled soul of the Mississippi Delta captured in elegant prose and extraordinary photography – a story filled with compassion, tolerance, and hope."

“Year of Our Lord” is a visual journey, exploring one of the poorest parts of the American South, a place that economic progress has left behind. And it is a spiritual journey, a revelation of a community that has replaced the hope for earthly prosperity with an abundance of faith in God and the life beyond. The Delta’s is a culture that can look upon Lucas and say, "God doesn’t make a mistake." It is a place that in the face of abject poverty can proclaim, life offers "too much joy!" “Year of Our Lord,” then, is an opportunity to see into another’s world, and to embrace the best of it.

A presentation tracing the life story of Lucas will be presented by Julie Chadwick, Thursday, January 27 at 9:20 am at the conference. Ms. Chadwick is Director of the TAD Center, North Mississippi Regional Center in Jackson, MS. In this presentation, “Lucas: One Amazing AAC User’s Story,” Lucas and his mother will assist in sharing his history in AAC, what interventions worked, what didn’t, the role of speech pathologists, teachers, friends. The last part of this presentation will be an open forum for input from professionals in the AAC community.
