Language for Beginners
Labeling
- A typical language skill between 4 and 18 months.
- Establish object-picture matching.
- Play games, make requests with low-tech boards.
- Don't stay at this level too long because
nouns are limiting to the development of language.
- Many people who use AAC become great labelers, but are not given access to other parts of speech until they learn to spell and recognize sight words. If they never learn to read or spell, they have to become just "nouners" or requesters.
- Introduce a consistent symbol set. There is no real pre-requisite for being introduced to Unity symbols!
