Tracey Diercks
Tracey DiercksTracey is a 34-year-old woman who has a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy.  She has had a variety of low and high tech communication devices during her life.  She has had a Liberator, Vanguard and most recently a Vanguard Plus.

Tracey has been very active in her family, community, education and vocational training.  During her high school education Tracey attended therapy services at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Dayton Ohio.  At this time, Tracey began volunteering for a couple hours each day to be a greeter at the hospital using her Liberator.  She also volunteered at Rosewood Art Center in Kettering Ohio as the greeter.

Tracey attended summer camps away from her family at Echoing Hills.  She has become involved in the Echoing Hills Ministry for individuals with disabilities.

Tracey is part of an Adult Traveler Program where she travels around the country at least two times each year.  She has been on trips with this group, without her family, to various places some of which include: St. Antonio, Chicago, Nashville, Washington DC, Pittsburg, New York City, and Indianapolis.  The trips involve various sightseeing outings to the tourist attractions (i.e., zoo’s, Indy 500, Empire State Building, Times Square, Broadway shows, Ground Zero, Grand Ol’ Oprey, ballet, shopping).  Tracey has also been active in the “People First” counsel group at United Rehabilitation Services where she attends the Adult Services Program during the week.  She is very involved in her church and participates in the women’s group.

Tracey travels with her family on vacations, including travel to other countries.  She is able to talk to anyone, anywhere using her Vanguard.  Her device draws people to her and she uses it to teach other people about communication devices and how she is able to use it.  Tracey is very excited because she is going to be a bridesmaid in her brother’s wedding this fall.  Her biggest concern is what her dress will look like!
