John Kinnaird: 1961-2007
John KinnairdA very special member of the Good Shepherd family passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2007. John Kinnaird, long-time resident of the Raker Center and advocate for people with disabilities, was 45.

John grew up as the oldest son in a family of five. His family always treated him as an equal to his able bodied siblings and through this he has been empowered to do great things.

Although John is functionally illiterate, thanks to his Pathfinder and the Unity® language program, he is a published author and poet.

John is an integral member of a group of actors with disabilities. This group wrote and currently stars in a play titled "Triumphs of Life." Currently, John serves on the board of directors at the Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living.

John's greatest strength is his never-ending energy for teaching and debating. He enjoys teaching others the importance of communication in all its forms. He loves to talk to school children as well as adult groups about life with physical and speech disabilities. He has practically dedicated his life to inspire others to take advantage of whatever life has to offer and to not feel sorry for themselves for what they don't have.
