Cory Bassett From Cory's SLP, Lesa Cramer:
Cory has cerebral palsy, which affects her ability to speak clearly. She takes general education classes, and has a very good sense of humor. She is an avid reader, and enjoys playing sports, and creating artwork. Because of her CP, Cory is often mistaken as a person with cognitive disabilities and other students sometimes "talk down" to her and do not seem to understand that she is just like they are.
Having the Vantage will augment Cory's language so that she can be more social with peers. It will also open doors for her as she transitions to post-secondary and the work force. Cory has so much to offer, and now more of her genuine personality and abilities will come forth.
And this is from Cory:
"Currently, I have trouble speaking. People don't understand me. I have to repeat myself again and again. When this happens I feel frustrated and annoyed. I don't think people know what I am thinking so I don't interact much.
With the Vantage I'll be able to communicate more and I'll be able to do things that I have wanted to do, but I couldn't because of my speech. I'll be able to talk to peers. For a while, I have wanted to do theatre. Now I'll be able to."
