Adam Assi

Adam AssiThank you, Prentke Romich, for giving our son the hope of communicating with the world around him.

When our beautiful little Adam came into this world in his father’s homeland of Israel on October 27, 2000, we eagerly looked forward to the day Adam would say his very first words.  But, although Adam grew and seemed to thrive, he had not spoken those precious first words by the time he and his mother visited the United States in the spring of 2003.  That summer, after Adam was diagnosed with Autism at Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, we searched for every possible method to teach him communication skills.

Adam is a smart little boy, a visual learner who is fascinated by letters, numbers and words. He has learned quickly in two different languages, English and Hebrew.  But, despite the fact that Adam understands a lot about the world around him, he is non-verbal.  Now, his new Prentke Romich communication device offers him the chance to finally be able to describe to us what he sees, and hears, and wants, and feels.  With this new tool, in just a few short weeks, our Adam is beginning to discover a way out of the silence in which he is locked.  Thank you for giving him the key to unlock the door to a fascinating, new world!
